The chairperson Mr. Christopher Michael  said “This is a dream come true it’s a great opportunity given us by TCRS to multiply our income now that we are able to harvest 25 kgs of honey per hive and we have 80 morden hives”

One litre of honey is sold at 12,000 Tsh

Beekeeping is widely practiced in Kibondo District and by the fact that Kigendeka village is part of the project, the mindset of the communities is tailored to conservation through beekeeping. The group was supported 80 modern beehives by TCRS.

Modern hives that TCRS supported yields more honey (25kg) unprocessed, compared to 8kg from the traditional type. The modern hives are user friendly for all the gender because of the mode of placement due their shape, this is in contrast to the traditional log type which are normally hanged on tree branches and that makes it very difficult for women to harvest honey. Traditional models use destructive method of harvesting to the bee colonies and this has led to uncontrolled wild fires.
